Dr. Aida Asmelash, is a dedicated clinical research professional. She has led numerous teams in the past 14 years of experience conducting Phase I-IV clinical trials on infectious diseases. Her research has focused on issues around HIV/AIDS and related co-morbidities. She is a strategist and accomplished health research professional. She is skilled at leading and managing clinical trials focused on identification of novel therapeutic and preventative HIV/AIDs and other infectious disease strategies. For nine years, she was Clinical Research Site Program Leader and study physician at the Botswana-Harvard AIDS Institute in Gaborone, Botswana. She was a Research Associate at the University of Kuopio, Kuopio, Finland, Department of General Practice and Public Health. and Served at a 100 bed hospital in Ethiopia as a general practitioner. During her years as a project leader she led the implementation and conduct of numerous clinical trials that advised global policy on optimization of antiretroviral therapy, safety and efficacy of anti-TB medication, safety and efficacy of vaccines and treatment strategies for selected cancers.
Most recently, Dr Asmelash earned a Master of Bioethics from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Baltimore (2018). She has an MD from Jimma University in Ethiopia, and a Masters of Public Health from the University of Kuopio, Eastern Finland.
